Wired Instagram Ads

To help aid Wired’s new “Internet of Things” issue, we were tasked to create Instagram ads that were a tongue and cheek approach to that idea. Part of the push at Deloitte was to focus on human-centered design and these ads captured the human-centered experience by showing the multiple ways tech can help. In the case of these two animated gifs I created, the concept was to hint at some ideas for using tech in everyday life while making exaggerations for capturing viewer attention.

What I enjoyed about this project was being able to stretch my design legs and create animation that were stylish and silly. I was given some room to play with the animations and make decisions like the camera flashes and screen glare on the rodeo women. The rural nature of both of these animations isn’t part of the demographic targeting but more so a play with some Americana tropes that are again, tongue and cheek. Wired enjoyed these animations and loved the concept!

Sketches

The illustrators put together rough sketches of the animations to show what we wanted for each animation I worked on. The density of the lines in the farmers illustration were a result of the project team wanting a realistic amount of plants that a farmer would reasonably have to harvest. Later on we simplified it after some discussion.
